Posted by Staff / December 26, 2012

Fresh Restaurant Yonge EglintonGood news for vegetarians north of Bloor - Fresh restaurants is expanding its empire to Yonge and Eglinton. Coming in summer of 2013, Fresh is opening its fourth Toronto location at 90 Eglinton East. The news was announced just over a week ago and follows on founder Ruth Tal's promise to us back in 2010 that a fourth and fifth location were in the works.

On behalf of our east-end readers, can we suggest the next Fresh be somewhere east of the DVP? In what neighbourhood would you like to see Fresh set up shop?

The Fifth to open a cafe and pub in 2013

Posted by Alexandra Grigorescu / November 21, 2012

toronto fifth new pub cafeThe Easy & the Fifth "complex" is almost like a gated community on Richmond St. It's currently comprised of 3 distinct properties within one converted warehouse: the cozy, Hamptonian Fifth Social Club (already in its 14th year) on the main floor, the distinguished woodsman vibe of Cabin Five next door, and the elegant steakhouse Fifth Grill five floors above (on the heated rooftop and accessible via private elevator, no less). In short, one address has pretty much everything you need for a Saturday evening.

Irish pub about to open in old Real Jerk space

Posted by Katlyn Jennings / August 12, 2012

An Sibin PubThe former home of the Real Jerk at Queen and Broadview is about to be the new home of The An Sibin Pub & Ceili House. Set to open its doors later this month, the gastropub promises to encompass both authentic and new-age Irish traditions, or Irish-fusion so to speak.

Earlier this week I met up for a tour of the under-construction space with co-owner Scott Brockington who used to manage Quinn's Steakhouse. He has lead me around the building and talked to me about what they have planned for the new venture. Gone is the iconic ray of sun on the west-facing wall, and the red and yellow exterior is now simply yellow.

Posted by Rebecca Fleming / May 31, 2012

Rock Lobster Co. Pop-UpTUM favourite, Rock Lobster Food Co. has found a new summer home at cheap eats haven 214 Augusta Ave in Kensington Market. Operating alongside the likes of Agave y Aguacate in the Latin American Food Court Thursdays through Sundays, RLFC will be serving up their arthropod fare starting June 8th.

Those who like to chase their lobster rolls with a beverage of the adult kind will want to make a visit to Cold Tea as Rock Lobster Co. has confirmed that they'll be delivering to the bar as well. A discussion between the two businesses about a one-off pop up event led to the more long term idea of letting customers remain rooted to their bar stools while the lobster came to them.

Dovercourt Village welcomes mini-restaurant boom

Posted by Derek Flack / March 29, 2012

2012329-actinolite.jpgDon't look now, but Dovercourt Village is about to take a humble spot on Toronto's restaurant map. Once something of a black hole for dining spots other than bakeries and Portuguese sports bars, the area around Dupont between Ossington and Dufferin is set to welcome three promising food destinations this spring. While this news is likely to lead to some talk of pending gentrification — a discussion which has already started in relation to Geary Avenue — it's also just exciting news for the restaurant-starved neighbourhood (which, I should note, some refer to as Dovercourt Park).
