Ontario restaurant serves up the biggest nacho plates in Canada
One Ontario pub is making a name for itself by serving up some of the largest nacho plates Canadian diners could possibly get their hands on.
If you're anything like me, you agree that there's no such thing as too many nachos, and that's why, while many Toronto residents might be planning to take road trips to many of Ontario's natural wonders or theme parks this summer, I'll be headed to a pub in Paris, Ontario, that serves up the largest plate of nachos in the country.
Sure, Toronto may be known for some larger-than-life food and beverage options, like 3.5 L glasses of wine and two-foot-long slices of pizza, you might just want to travel outside of the city to get your hands on this heavyweight champ.
Ever since opening in 2008, Paris' Cobblestone Pub has been a go-to in the community for pub comfort food classics and sports game screenings, drawing a cult following from the community and visitors alike for the past 17 years.
Not content to settle on the same old standard offerings, though, owner Matt Cummings decided early on that the pub's patrons deserved something better and, quite literally, bigger.
Thus, their nachos, simply named "The Nachos," because they don't need any more explanation than that, were born.
"I hated going to restaurants and ordering nachos, and they were always cheap-looking and never had enough cheese and toppings," Matt tells me. "So I decided to up the game, and I may have went a bit overboard. But we will never change them now!"
Each plate of nachos is priced at $24.99, and is comprised of two heaping plates of nachos stacked on top of one another — and there's a very practical reason for that.
"We believe nachos should be the same even when you reach the bottom," Matt says, and this approach guarantees that every bite comes loaded up with cheese, onions, tomato and peppers. Talk about community service!
While they've never actually weighed the nachos, so can't say for absolutely certain that it's the heftiest plate around, Matt tells me that he has yet to see anything that even comes close.
Not in the mood for quite so hefty a portion of nachos? You're out of luck. A message accompanying the nachos on Cobblestone's menu proudly states, "No! We don't do half orders. You can do it, we have faith in you!"
Speaking strictly personally, I'm sure my friends and I, in the mood for nachos, would have absolutely no problem clearing the plate. As I said, no such thing as too many nachos.
The Cobblestone Pub is open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., seven days a week, and is located at 111 Grand River Street.
