Toronto bulk foods store forced to close after 25 years in business

A Toronto staple is bidding farewell to the Yonge and Eglinton neighbourhood after 25 years in business.

Kenpik Fine Bulk Food, which opened its Mount Pleasant location in 2001, can no longer afford the rising operating costs amid the current economy. David, the shop's owner, tells blogTO that the business has "no choice but to close down."

"Business is bad, and I don't make enough money to pay my rent. The rent is just too much," he goes on, echoing the struggles of many other small businesses across the city.

David tried to keep the business afloat but was ultimately forced to throw in the towel after a nearby Bulk Barn opened a few years ago and cut into his sales.

Kenpik Fine Bulk Foods has since marked all its inventory as clearance. Customers can even pick up the scoops the business used for free from a bin of excess utensils sitting by the front door.

The store's last day of business is Oct. 15, open from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Kenpik Fine Bulk Foods is located at 151 Manor Rd. E.
