Toronto hotel prices for FIFA World Cup 2026 are totally out of control

The clock is ticking down to the FIFA World Cup 2026 matches coming to Toronto in just a few months, and hotel prices are skyrocketing as quickly as the city prepares to welcome the most-watched sporting event around.

Toronto is set to host six matches from June 12 to July 2, and FIFA fever is already evident with billboards and activations hyping up the coming tournament.

In preparation for the matches, BMO Field is undergoing a $146 million makeover, and will be temporarily known as Toronto Stadium due to FIFA sponsorship restrictions. But it's not just the stadium that's changing; transit and hotels are also being impacted, with major construction works being accelerated, and lodging prices already soaring through the roof.

We've already seen outrageous hotel price spikes before, back in 2024, when Taylor Swift brought a six-concert run of her Eras Tour to Toronto, and again in 2025 during the Toronto Blue Jays' historic 2025 World Series run

In any typical month, a standard room at the boutique The Ace Hotel might cost you about $500, but during the World Cup, you're looking at spending nearly twice as much.

One-night hotel stays are already hitting the quadruple digits in various hospitality properties around town. Meanwhile, Airbnb hosts are expected to rake in big bucks to rent their homes during the tournament, which is expected to attract around 146,000 tourists to Toronto.

Places like the Hilton are already fully booked. So what options do fans have right now?

Here's a look at what some boutique hotels in Toronto are charging per night during the FIFA World Cup 2026:

Travel search engines like Kayak and Expedia show that some downtown Toronto hotels still have slightly more affordable rates during the tournament. For example, a room at Town Inn Suites is available for $411 per night on June 12.

And, there's always the option of looking at neighbouring cities like Pickering and Vaughan for lower hotel rates. Fans who plan ahead and secure their accommodations now will be able to lock in these prices and avoid even higher surge prices as kickoff approaches.
