The record-breaking snowfall dumped on Toronto this past weekend is likely having you daydream about your next tropical escape, and luckily, there are tons of new routes coming to Pearson Airport and Billy Bishop Airport over the next few months.
From history-making services to the long-awaited return of previously served destinations, here's a look at all the new flights coming to Toronto soon.
Montreal-based airline Air Transat announced late last year that it was launching a new non-stop flight service between Toronto and Albania's capital, Tirana, which is regarded as one of Europe's sunniest cities.
Currently, there are no direct flight options between the two cities, which often means dealing with a layover in European cities like Warsaw, London, Frankfurt, or Rome via airlines like Air Canada and Lufthansa.
The route will be part of Air Transat's summer 2026 program and will operate once weekly starting June 18.
Back in November, Air Canada announced a new direct flight service from Toronto to Ponta Delgada as part of its expanded summer 2026 global schedule.
Located on São Miguel Island, Ponta Delgada is the capital of the Azores and known for its breathtaking landscapes, geothermal activity, and striking lakes. The service is set to operate three times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, starting Jun. 11 until Sept. 6.
Just a few days prior, Calgary-headquartered airline, WestJet, also announced that it is launching new non-stop flights to Ponta Delgada starting June 12.
Along with its Tirana route, Air Transat is set to make history this year with the launch of its direct flight service between Toronto and Accra, which will make the first non-stop air link between the two cities.
The seasonal route is set to operate from June 17 to Oct. 22, with twice-weekly flights departing on Wednesdays and Sundays. Flights depart Toronto at 6 p.m. and arrive in Accra at 9 a.m., local time. Returning flights will leave Accra at 11:05 a.m. and arrive back in Toronto at 6:40 p.m., local time.
Last year, Spanish carrier Iberia announced that it was launching new nonstop flights between Toronto and Madrid ahead of the busy summer travel season, with five weekly flights.
The new service is set to launch on June 13, with flights on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Flights are scheduled to take off in Toronto at 5:10 p.m. and arrive at Madrid Barajas Airport at 6:55 a.m. local time. Returning flights will depart Madrid at 12 p.m. and arrive back in Toronto at 3 p.m.
The airline is set to face competition from Air Canada, which already operates a non-stop flight service between Toronto and Madrid during the summer months.
Last spring, Air Serbia teased the possibility of introducing a non-stop flight service between Toronto and Serbia's capital, Belgrade, as part of its expansion plans in North America.
Soon after, the airline confirmed that it would operate a direct route between the two cities starting on May 23 until September. The service is set to operate twice weekly to keep up with high demand during the summer.
Connecting flights are currently the only option when it comes to travelling between the two cities, usually with a stop in other European destinations like Frankfurt, Zurich, Warsaw, and Munich.
Back in September, Air Canada announced its international network for summer 2026, which included the reestablishment of non-stop flights from Toronto to Budapest, Hungary.
Flights to Hungary's capital are officially set to launch on June 5, and will depart Pearson Airport on Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays at 9:55 p.m.
Returning flights will depart Budapest at 1:15 p.m. and arrive in Toronto at 3:15 p.m. local time on Mondays, Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
Along with its Budapest route, Air Canada also announced the reestablishment of its non-stop flight service to Shanghai, China.
Flights will officially kick off on June 3 and will depart Toronto at 12:45 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. Returning flights will leave Shanghai at 6 p.m. local time on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, and arrive at Pearson Airport at 7:55 p.m.
Along with its new flight routes, Air Canada is also preparing to add one additional flight to its Toronto to Prague route, for a total of four weekly flights during summer 2026.
Last summer, Finland's flag carrier announced that it would be launching direct flights from Helsinki Airport to Toronto. The airline last flew to Pearson Airport in the summer of 2015.
Following an 11-year hiatus, the route will go back into service starting on May 6, and will operate three times a week during the summer season on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Sundays.
As part of the announcement for the first portion of its summer 2026 network, WestJet also revealed that it would be serving four international destinations from Toronto, including a new non-stop route to Medellín, Colombia.
The service is set to launch on April 28 and will operate four times a week.
During the same announcement, WestJet revealed that it would be launching a brand new flight service from Toronto to Cardiff, the capital of Wales.
The route was last serviced by Zoom Airlines in 2008, a now-defunct low-fare airline previously headquartered in Ottawa. The service is officially launching on May 22, and similar to the Medellín route, will operate four times a week.
In October, Air Canada unveiled a major expansion at Billy Bishop Airport with new routes to four major U.S. cities.
Starting this spring, Air Canada is set to launch new non-stop return service four times daily to New York's LaGuardia Airport, three times daily to Boston Logan International Airport, twice daily to Chicago O’Hare International Airport, and daily to Washington Dulles International Airport.
Flights are set to kick off to LaGuardia on March 29, Chicago and Washington D.C. on June 1, and Boston on July 1.
