If you're already in the midst of planning out your 2026 European summer, there's an upcoming flight service you should keep on your radar.
Rumoured for months, flag carrier Air Serbia has officially confirmed the launch of a new seasonal summer service between Toronto and Belgrade, Serbia's capital and largest city. Back in March, the airline teased the possibility of introducing a non-stop flight service between the two cities as part of its expansion plans in North America.
According to the airline's general manager for commercial and strategy, Boško Rupić, the service, which will operate twice weekly, is set to launch in May and continue until September.
"There is a big community from both Serbia and the region living there so this will be an important route not just for Serbia and Belgrade but for the wider region too," Rupić said.
Several other carriers have operated a Toronto to Belgrade route in the past, including Skyservice Airlines, which has since ceased operations, as well as Jat Airways throughout the 1970s and 1980s.
Over the past few years, Belgrade has witnessed an influx of tourists, including in 2023, when the city hosted 1.38 million visitors — a 17 per cent increase from 2022. The city is known for its attractions like the Belgrade Fortress, Church of Saint Sava, Nikola Tesla Museum, Ada Ciganlija (river peninsula), and Kneza Mihaila (major pedestrian thoroughfare).
Currently, the only options for travelling between Belgrade and Toronto are connecting flights with multiple carriers, usually with a stop in other European cities like Munich, Frankfurt, Zurich, and Warsaw.
