With all the strong winds and possible snow headed for Toronto this weekend, you're probably already daydreaming about your next sunny vacation.
Well, there's good news for those who travel out of Pearson Airport, as we'll have one more direct flight option next summer to a Portuguese island known for its breathtaking landscapes and emerald-blue lakes.
On Tuesday, Air Canada announced that its expanded summer 2026 global schedule to Europe, which includes a new, direct flight service from Toronto to Ponta Delgada, which is the capital of the Azores and located on São Miguel Island, just off the coast of Portugal.
The new flight will operate three times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, and represents Air Canada's third destination in Portugal. Flights will depart Ponta Delgada and return to Toronto on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.
"Air Canada is further expanding its comprehensive transatlantic network to offer customers even more exciting destinations to explore. From Canada to Berlin, Ponta Delgada, Nantes and Brussels, we are strategically increasing new non-stop routes across Europe to bring convenient access to key destinations, while strengthening economic ties, and supporting tourism," said Mark Galardo, Air Canada Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer, and President, Cargo.
São Miguel is the largest island in the Azores and is known for its volcanic scenery, geothermal activity, and a massive departure point in the Atlantic for whale-watching and dolphin tours.
The new service officially launches on Jun. 11, 2026, and runs through the summer until Sept. 6, 2026.
Air Canada isn't the only airline to announce a non-stop flight service from Toronto to Ponta Delgada recently. Just a few days ago, Calgary-headquartered airline, WestJet, announced that it is launching a non-stop route to the city on June 12.
