A Canadian airline is set to make history next year with the launch of a new non-stop flight service connecting Toronto and Accra, marking the first non-stop air link between the city and Ghana.
The Montreal-headquartered carrier announced its seasonal route today, which will operate from June 17 to Oct. 22, 2026, with twice-weekly flights departing on Wednesdays and Sundays.
Accra, the centre of a metropolitan area home to roughly 4 million inhabitants, is known for its bustling markets and mix of modern and colonial-era Victorian architecture.
Flights depart Toronto at 6 p.m. and arrive in Accra at 9 a.m., local time, following an 11-hour journey. Returning flights depart Accra at 11:05 a.m. and arrive in Toronto at 6:40 p.m., local time.
"We are honoured to be the first and only airline to offer a direct connection between Canada and Ghana," said Sebastian Ponce, Chief Revenue Officer at Transat.
"This non-stop service between Toronto and Accra aligns with our growth strategy on the African continent and directly responds to the needs of the Ghanaian diaspora in Ontario as well as the increasing interest in travelling to Ghana. It will also provide travellers with an entirely new, simplified connectivity option, eliminating the long European layovers that were previously required."
As part of its summer 2026 program expansion, Accra becomes Air Transat's fourth destination in Africa, following newly announced routes to Dakar, Agadir, and Marrakech.
The forthcoming non-stop service is expected to streamline travel between the two countries, which often means one or two stops with long layovers in between. Currently, travelling between Toronto and Accra means connecting through international cities like Casablanca, Rome, New York City, Washington D.C., Lisbon, or London, to name a few.
Flights are now available for booking online at Air Transat's website.
