Getting out of Toronto is about to get a whole lot easier.
GO Transit has announced it is extending its Kitchener Line to include a new stop in Stratford, Ont., beginning July 6, 2026.
The new service, aimed at "strengthening connectivity across southwestern Ontario," will provide direct train access to the popular destination, known for its theatre culture, lush parks and gardens, and the world's smallest cinema.
The new GO Train stop isn't just good news for city dwellers looking for a weekend escape to the Shakespeare-inspired city. It also brings Stratford into Toronto's commuter sphere, for people looking to put down roots in a city within commuting range of the big city without the traffic or the downtown home prices.
Until now, those living in the small city on the Avon River have had to rely on multi-bus routes or pricier trips with Via Rail to make the trek into Toronto.
On weekdays, there will be a morning rush hour service from Stratford to Union Station, with a return trip in the afternoon. Trains will make stops in Kitchener, Guelph, Acton, Georgetown and Brampton before reaching Union Station, and vice versa.
GO Transit says service details and full schedules will be released in June.
