One-of-a-kind Ontario mountain coaster reaching 40 km/h is a must-do this spring

The Ridge Runner Mountain Coaster in the Ontario town of Blue Mountains is back for the spring season with high speed fun in the hills.

Set along the slopes of the Niagara Escarpment, a popular tourist destination in Ontario, this alpine coaster sends riders down a one-kilometre track through forested terrain, complete with steep dips and 360-degree curves.

With speeds up to 42 km/h the ride is Ontario's only mountain coaster and one of its most distinctive thrill attractions. But if that sounds a little too fast for your liking, there's good news: you can control your own speed with a hand brake, so you can take it slow and enjoy the scenery instead of going full throttle.

After a brief seasonal maintenance closure, the Ridge Runner is now running daily again, between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. though a few dates in May will be closed due to maintenance, accordng to the website.

Open year-round, the coaster has become one of the standout attractions at Blue Mountain's Adventure Park, drawing loads of visitors who want something more venturesome than just a scenic hike around the village after making the roughly 90-minute trip from the city.

You can purchase tickets for the Ridge Runner Mountain Coaster online with access included in the full access pass starting at $56 plus taxes and fees.

The mountain coaster is located in the Adventure Park at 1759 Village Cres. in The Blue Mountains, Ont.
