Canada's Wonderland will be decked out in 7 million lights this holiday season

Canada's Wonderland is transforming for the holiday season with the return of WinterFest, the sixth edition of the colourful seasonal event that's become a holiday staple at the park.

This year's edition of WinterFest — debuting in mid-November — will deck the park in twinkling lights and offer visitors everything from themed attractions to in-park entertainment.

Each night kicks off with a tree lighting ceremony on International Street, where two 50-foot Christmas trees will come to life with thousands of lights and ornaments. But the Christmas trees aren't the only things that will light up at the park.

WinterFest boasts a total of seven million lights ready to set the park aglow each night of the event.

Visitors can enjoy over 40 attractions and experiences, from live shows and skating to festive eats and shopping. This year also brings two new performances: Small Town Snowmance, a love story presented by the Wonderland Players, and It's Christmas, Charlie Brown!, a musical featuring Snoopy and the PEANUTS Gang.

Returning favourites this year include Tinker's Toy Factory, an indoor performance filled with acrobatics and holiday soundtracks, and Cool Yule Christmas, a show packed with fan-favourite Christmas pop songs.

For those looking to get active, the giant fountain in front of the park's signature Wonder Mountain will be frozen over to create Snow Flake Lake, though attendees must register in advance for a time slot to skate.

For those more interested in the park's famous thrill rides, WinterFest still lets visitors enjoy 23 rides of the park's rides throughout the event, including Thunder Run, Klockwerks, and Psyclone.

Other highlights include Jack Frost’s Igloo Village, where visitors can rent a private heated igloo with food and beverage service, and the Christmas Market, featuring artisan vendors and even more festive food.

"It's a magical experience to see the entire park lit up with lights, to hear the holiday music, to see the exciting shows, and enjoy a fun night out with family or friends," says Heather Hill, Park Manager, in the official news release for the event.

WinterFest is set to take place on select nights from Nov. 15 to Jan. 3. You can visit the event's official website for information on tickets and registration for skating on Snow Flake Lake.

WinterFest takes place at Canada's Wonderland, located at 1 Canada's Wonderland Dr. in Vaughan, Ont.
