Popular Toronto plant-based eatery the Hogtown Vegan will shutter its doors permanently later this month after 15 years of serving up meat-free fare.
Hogtown Vegan shared news of its impending closure via social media on Wednesday, announcing, "To everyone in this lovely community who's supported us over the years," that it will close for good in under two weeks.
"We regret to announce that Hogtown will be closing at the end of September, with our last day of service being September 27th," the restaurant's Instagram post reads, explaining that the business has "been facing the same struggles as many other restaurants, and it pains me to say it doesn't look like we'll be able to make it out the other end."
"These last few years have been the most exhilarating, and fulfilling experience I could've dreamed of. I couldn't have hoped for a better team to do this with, and I'll be forever grateful to everyone I've worked with over these years. The opportunity to take over Hogtown, a restaurant I'd loved, and getting to experience the gratitude of so many wonderful customers will live in my heart always."
"It's my hope that Hogtown will return in some form in the future. My vision has always been to grow Hogtown even further, transforming it into a community space I could pour my heart into and continue to love for years to come."
The business owners expressed that they "hope to see as many [customers] as possible before the end of the month to say goodbye," and thanked patrons "from the very bottom of my heart" for helping the business make it this far, closing by saying, "It's been an absolute privilege."
Hogtown Vegan first opened in July 2011 at 834 Bloor St. W. (vacated in 2014) and expanded in 2017 to a second location at 382 College St.
Hogtown Vegan's management had previously attempted to expand its footprint with the 2021 opening of a new concept, Hunny. However, the business was forced to close "indefinitely" the very next year amid runaway inflation and food shortages.
