Cookies seem to be all the rage in Toronto these days, and the city is about to get a new bakery that serves them up like no one else does.
Whenever the craving for a good cookie hits — which, if you're anything like me, happens often — Toronto residents can rest assured that they're in good hands. There are the heavy hitters, like Craig's and Andrea's, alongside newer additions to the scene, like Eight Cookies and Milk and Cookies, all eager to sate your sweet tooth.
But if all those options are just a bit too well done for you, you're in luck, because the aptly named Gooie is gearing up to open what co-founder Maria Tsianos calls "Toronto's first Scoop Bar" in the heart of the Entertainment District this fall.
Owned and operated by Maria, her three siblings Nicolette, Dimitria and Vasili Tsianos, and their best friend Katherine Noitsis, Maria tells blogTO that the idea for Gooie was born from a lifetime spent appreciating a good, gooey cookie together.
"We grew up baking together and have always had a soft spot for underbaked, gooey cookies," Maria explains. "Creating Gooie felt like a natural extension of something we've always loved doing, and in a way, it's brought us right back to being kids in the kitchen together."
At Gooie, customers can skip the crispy edges and dive straight to the molten centre of the cookie, with warm, fresh batches of half-baked cookie dough served by the scoop and topped, if you so choose, with soft serve and a selection of sauces and toppings.
You're damn right I'd so choose that.
The menu will feature a signature classic flavour that never changes, surrounded by rotating seasonal options so you can keep coming back every time the craving strikes. Along with the cookies (or whatever you'd call them), the shop will offer a full coffee menu with homemade syrups and one-of-a-kind flavour combinations.
Gooie will be located at 106 John St. and is expected to open by the end of November 2026.
