Ontario's biggest grocery store is opening this week

A highly anticipated, massive grocery store is opening its doors in Mississauga this week, and it's bringing an enormous selection of international foods, specialty products, and a ridiculously long candy aisle with it.

Food World Plus is set to open its doors on Friday, Oct. 30, in a former Highland Farms location at 50 Matheson Blvd. E. Spanning a whopping 176,000 square feet with a whopping 1,100 parking spaces, the store is being billed as the largest grocery store in Ontario.

To give you an idea of its scale, a typical Costco warehouse in Ontario spans approximately 146,000 to 150,000 square feet.

The multicultural grocery store aims to bring together products and hard-to-source ingredients from around the world, with products from Europe, the Caribbean, the Middle East, East Asia, and South Asia, all under one roof.

The store is set to feature a dedicated halal meat section, eggless cakes, fresh sushi, hot food options, wine and beer, gluten-free products, fresh juice, and a live pasta station where fresh pasta is made right in front of you from scratch.

Perhaps the most eye-catching feature of the site is its 1,000-foot candy and chocolate aisle, which sounds like a potentially dangerous place to go if you're like me and have a serious sweet tooth.

The store is backed by JDass Corp., a Canadian investment and operations company, and is designed to serve Mississauga's diverse communities.

Food World Plus will open its doors on Oct. 30, with regular hours listed as 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturdays, and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sundays.
