Two steakhouses, both ranked among the world's best, are coming together for a limited engagement in Toronto that you'll be dying to sink your teeth into.
A rare collaboration is being cooked up in Toronto as we speak. For three nights this November, Toronto's Jacobs & Co. Steakhouse will host London, England's Hawksmoor in a collaboration that's almost guaranteed to leave you gnawing at the bone.
The only North American restaurant to be named among the World's 101 Best Steakhouses three years in a row, the venerable Jacobs & Co. has more than earned its acclaim over its nearly 20 years in business. As it stands, Jacobs is one of only two Toronto steakhouses, next to Linny's, that appear on the list.
It's only fair, then, that when another well-regarded steakhouse is looking to take a trip across the pond, Jacobs would be its willing host. And from Nov. 3 through 5, that's exactly what's going on.
For three nights only, the teams from Jacobs & Co. and Hawksmoor (13th on the list, compared to Jacobs' 51st) will come together to offer a six-course dinner that melds Hawksmoor's commitment to quality British beef with Jacobs' lauded international steak program.
"There is a real kinship between our restaurants — from the way we source and age our beef to the importance we place on hospitality. We're excited to bring our two teams together and create something genuinely special for Toronto," says Jacobs & Co Executive Chef Danny McCallum.
Hawksmoor Executive Chef Matt Brown echoes the sentiment, saying that he and his team have "admired Jacobs & Co. for a long time, so getting to cook alongside Danny and his team is a real privilege."
The team at Jacobs & Co. has a lot to look up to Hawksmoor for, too. Founded in 2006, the restaurant now operates 15 locations across the U.K., Ireland and the U.S.A. In 2022, the London restaurant was named the best steakhouse in the world, and it continues to rank high — higher than any Toronto restaurant, I might add — on the World's 101 Best list.
Whoever is the greater inspiration to whom, the collaboration, part of The Rare Tour, which pairs steak restaurants from opposite sides of the globe for one-of-a-kind dinners, promises to be an exceptionally tasty one.
Of course, if you want to experience the magic that happens when two of the world's top steakhouses join forces, it'll cost you. Reservations, which are available now through OpenTable, go for $250 a person. Optional wine pairings will tack $175 onto your bill or, if you're avoiding the buzz, you can also choose a zero-proof pairing for $70.
Jacobs & Co. Steakhouse is located at 81 Bay St.
