An Ontario burger business that was born "in a garage, over beers" has become the talk of its community.
James Link, one of four founders of Georgetown, Ontario's newly minted smash burger truck, Yoyo's Burgers, doesn't come from a "restaurant empire." As it happens, neither do his three business partners, Wojtek, Joe, and Mark.
"[We're] just four guys who take burgers seriously," Link tells blogTO.
As any group of guys who take burgers seriously are wont to do, the foursome, who also happen to be neighbours on the same street in Georgetown, also take beer seriously. Drinking it and dreaming up potential business ventures together, that is.
One day, in spring 2026, the group was doing just that when they decided, once and for all, they'd go into the burger business together. And, as Link says, where so many grandiose ideas made over beers in the dying light die out the next morning, Yoyo's Burgers was only just getting started.
Link tells blogTO that the team experimented for months, using their community as "willing guinea pigs" to get their smash burger recipe just right, before finally launching in October.
To say the burger trailer was well-received would be an understatement.
On the truck's opening weekend, the team was met with a lineup that stretched across the entire lot, and, in just three weeks, Yoyo's has earned an impressive 4.9 stars from 180 reviews on Google. Some customers have even decreed Yoyo's Burgers the best they've ever tried.
Even now, lengthy lineups on weekends aren't rare. They're a constant.
While smashburgers are a dime a dozen in the GTA these days, Yoyo's has seemingly cracked the code on making theirs stand out, using Triple A Alberta beef ground fresh at Georgetown's own Pat's Prime Cuts and, their secret weapon, a percentage of lamb — "that's where the flavour and the fat content come from," Link explains.
"We knew we'd landed it when the test nights stopped being about taking notes and started being about who got seconds," he says.
Always sandwiched between Cobs Bakery buns, you can sink your teeth into the patties in multiples of one, two, four, six, or, if you're feeling especially bold, 15. The menu also features other treats like fries and dirty sodas to round out your meal — but if you opt for the 15-patty monster, you may not have the appetite for much else.
Yoyo's Burgers is open 7 days a week from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and you can find it parked at 325 Guelph St. in Halton Hills.
