If you thought Toronto's $20 sandwiches were a problem, you might need some time to wrap your head around the $91 price tag of a new menu item coming to a local steakhouse this month.
Former Toronto Maple Leafs star Nazem Kadri is partnering up with ANIML Steakhouse on the new "Naz Kadri Sando," an over-the-top gourmet sandwich offering that comes with an equally excessive price.
The premium A5 Wagyu tenderloin sandwich, which debuts on Nov. 10, features Japanese shokupan bread slathered in house-made Bulldog sauce.
And while the $91 cost of this menu item (matching Kadri's jersey number) might deter the more cost-conscious diners, ANIML states that 100 per cent of profits from sandwiches sold will be donated to the Nazem Kadri Foundation, an organization that supports initiatives aimed at advancing healthcare innovation, mental health, food security, and community services.
Kadri, currently a member of the Colorado Avalanche, played for the Leafs for a decade from 2009 to 2019. Despite seven years removed from the franchise, the London, Ont.-born NHL veteran maintains close ties to the city where he spent the formative years of his career.
ANIML Steakhouse & Cocktail Den is located at 420A Wellington St. W.
