What started as an enthusiastic attempt to beautify Roncesvalles (and replace some very old sewer pipes) turned into a major inconvenience for residents and businesses long ago. And the project, which began in 2009 and was supposed to end by 2010, is still not complete. Delays have ushered in another round of construction this spring.

In October 2010, Ana Bailão won the race to replace Adam Giambrone in Ward 18, beating his former executive assistant, Kevin Beaulieu, by nearly 10 points. She is one of seven new women to join City Council.

In October 2010, Josh Matlow was elected to replace veteran councillor Michael Walker in Ward 22. Matlow, a 35 year-old former school board trustee, comes to city council to represent one of Toronto's wealthiest and most populous wards. It is also one of the few wards where overall work trips by transit exceed 40 per cent.

Egyptian Canadians gathered at Yonge and Dundas Square on Friday evening to celebrate the news of President Hosni Mubarak's resignation. The spirited rally was organized by the Toronto-Arab Solidarity Campaign, the same organization that organized the Egypt solidarity protest last week and a fortnight ago.

In October 2010, James Pasternak was elected to replace long-time councillor Mike Feldman in Ward 10. Pasternak joins city council after working as a trustee for the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) since 2006.
