FIFA World Cup fan who went viral in Toronto has been arrested

One of the most viral fans of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Toronto has been arrested in Ghana.

"Powder Man," whose real name is Kailani Ibrahim Kpa, appeared in court on Wednesday over an alleged visa and travel fraud scheme that collected more than $40,000 from more than a dozen people.

According to UTV Ghana, Powder Man allegedly promised fellow Ghanaian supporters visas and other travel arrangements to help them travel to Canada and the U.S.

None of the promised trips ended up happening, and when the alleged victims confronted Powder Man about their money, he was supposedly difficult to reach.

Kailani Ibrahim Kpa, popularly known as “Powder Man,” has been granted GH¢400,000 bail with three sureties by the Accra Circuit Court 9 after being charged with visa and travel fraud.

Powder Man first went viral at Toronto Stadium during Ghana's opening tournament win over Panama. International broadcast cameras caught him blowing powder into the air just moments before Ghana scored a late winner to take a 1-0 lead.

Soccer fans on social media quickly dubbed him Ghana's "juju" man.

He became even more famous during Ghana's second match, when he was again spotted blowing powder in a game where the Black Stars held England to a goalless draw.

Throughout the tournament, the viral fan reiterated on social media that his trip was self-funded, until it wasn't.

Ahead of Ghana's final knockout match against Colombia in Kansas City, Powder Man asked his fans and followers for financial support to attend the Black Stars' next game after he said he had run out of funds.

The fraud allegations against Powder Man have not been proven in court. He has reportedly pleaded not guilty, and the case remains ongoing.
