Pitcher the Toronto Blue Jays gave up on is lighting it up with his new team

Perhaps the Toronto Blue Jays gave up on Eric Lauer a little bit too soon.

After an impressive 2025 season that saw Lauer register a 3.18 ERA through 104.2 innings (15 starts), the 31-year-old was designated for assignment back in May after posting a 6.69 ERA through 36.1 innings. He wound up being traded to the LA Dodgers and has quickly gotten back on track.

Through seven starts and 45.2 innings in a Dodgers uniform, Lauer has put up an impressive 3.35 ERA. The Dodgers have yet to lose a game he's started, thanks in large part to the fact that he hasn't allowed more than three runs in any of those seven starts. 

"Being a Toronto Blue Jays fan this year is f*cking hard man," one Jays fan commented on Reddit.

That fan certainly isn't wrong.

After a miraculous 2025 season that saw the Blue Jays fall just one win short of a World Series title, the wheels have completely fallen off in 2026. They currently sit dead last in the AL East with a 49-58 record and are seemingly falling further and further out of the playoff picture by the day.

That isn't of concern for Lauer, who probably feels he lucked out by being DFA'd. His Dodgers sit atop the MLB with a 67-39 record and are strong contenders to win their third-straight World Series title later this year.
