vlad jr grand slam alds

Dejected Yankees broadcasters left in stunned silence by Vladdy Jr.'s huge grand slam

The New York Yankees and their collective fan base may be having nightmares of Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

The Blue Jays have gotten off to as good a start in the ALDS as one could have hoped, as they hold a 2-0 series lead over the Yankees and have outscored them 23-8. Guerrero has played a huge role in that, smacking two long balls to go with a staggering .667 and six RBI.

While Guerrero was outstanding in Game 1, it was his grand slam in Game 2 that really put a stamp on this series so far. The 26-year-old stepped up to the plate with the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth inning and hit a moon shot for the first-ever grand slam in Blue Jays postseason history.

While Blue Jays fans were absolutely loving it, Yankees faithful had a much different reaction. The call from their radio call on WFAN summed up the overall dejection of their fan base at that exact moment.

What made this call even better was the fact that announcer Dave Sims predicted the grand slam right before it came to fruition.

"Guerrero at the dish in a 2-1 count, he's looking to unload right here. … He did. Deep drive, left field, grand slam," said a demoralized Sims.

Guerrero's grand slam wound up being much more crucial than it seemed at the moment, as the Yankees were able to take advantage of the Blue Jays' bullpen and wound up putting up seven runs on the board. In the end, however, the Jays still pulled away with a decisive 13-7 victory.

Now, the Jays have an opportunity to eliminate the Yankees from the playoffs this Tuesday at Yankee Stadium. It will be Shane Bieber on the mound for the Jays, while Carlos Rodon will get the nod for the Yankees with his team's season on the line.
