It feels strange to say, but the Toronto Maple Leafs have themselves a winning streak.
The Leafs got some late-game heroics from Troy Stecher on Thursday to beat the New York Rangers 5-4 at home, extending their winning streak to three games. Their offence is heating up, too, as they've scored at least four goals in each of those three wins.
There's a sign of life back with the Maple Leafs, and a mysterious new celebration could be to thank.
After opening the scoring against the Rangers last night, Leafs forward Easton Cowan made an up-and-down motion with his left forearm and hand while he was skating by the Toronto bench.
It appeared to be the same motion he made two nights earlier after scoring in Toronto's 6-1 rout of the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Auston Matthews and Gavin McKenna continued the Leafs’ secret celebration after their win against the Rangers ✋🫳 Do we still not know the meaning of this? 😅 #leafs https://t.co/Z8sSUaO5LS

And Cowan isn't the only one doing it. Captain Auston Matthews and rookie Gavin McKenna also busted out the celebration on Thursday while acknowledging the Scotiabank Arena fans at centre ice after the win.
Naturally, Leafs fans have been speculating on social media about what this mysterious gesture could possibly mean.
"I think it's the golden cats with the waving paws that are usually for luck and fortune," one fan wrote.
Another suggested it means "all gas, no brakes," an idiom to keep going without hesitation.
Even Sportsnet's Anna Dua went straight to the source to try to solve the mystery, but Cowan wasn't giving anything away. Instead, he told her to ask Mckenna.
Asked Easton Cowan about if there was a story behind this celly he said “no, no… if Gavin wants to say he can say” Still on the case folks, will try and get an answer https://t.co/LG5eZyLk9R

"We did it in college and it was like if someone did something cool or they're like a beauty, then you do that [motion]," said McKenna.
"I started doing it here [in training camp] with the guys, and it's pretty cool to see it catch on."
Whatever this "beauty" gesture means to the Maple Leafs locker room, it clearly has the team buzzing ahead of their one-week, four-game road swing against Edmonton, Calgary, Seattle, and Vancouver.
