Huge Hamptons-inspired party taking over the Toronto Islands next month

Toronto is getting the chance to party in one of the most sought-after spots in the city at a brand-new event that's bringing summer in the Hamptons to the Six.

There's something about a summer day spent on the Toronto Islands — whether you ferry or splurge for a water taxi, spend the day at Hanlan's or Centreville — that just feeds the soul.

Maybe it's the physical separation from all of the stress you left behind just across the water, or maybe it's the incomparable view of the city skyline, but a day on the island is, in my humble opinion, the closest one can get to a tropical getaway without ever leaving the city.

The idea has often struck me that the islands could pose an ideal location for events and parties, tapping into an energy you can't find anywhere else on the mainland; and, it seems as though I'm not alone, because campus marketing and event company, Mosea, is gearing up to do exactly that this June.

After the early days of Electric Island, when the music festival decided, once and for all, that holding the event on the Toronto Islands wasn't worth the headache, the party potential of the island has gone virtually untapped, but, Noah Battaglia, Mosea's Head of Operations, tells me, it was high time that changed, so, on June 7, they're throwing their first-ever "Sundowner" on the Toronto Islands to celebrate the start of summer.

The event takes place at Toronto Island BBQ and Beer Co., an enormous two-tier restaurant on Centre Island with a dock overlooking the city skyline and capacity for 1500 eager partygoers on top of, Noah adds, great food and cheap drinks.

"I've actually been there myself, just for fun, and I always thought the venue was super cool," Noah tells me, and it was that exact visit that started his wheels spinning on all the potential the venue holds.

"I just realized that everyone loves going to cottages, going to Muskoka, and being on a dock in the summer, and there's a dock an eight-minute water taxi away from the city," he says.

While the notion of throwing a party that could see 1,500 attendees poses potential for some major speed bumps, Noah says that they've got it all figured out, partnering with a local water taxi company to offer discounted rides to partygoers, on top of wrapping the party up well before the last ferry departs.

The all-white party, which undoubtedly draws inspiration from Michael Rubin's legendary Fourth of July parties in the Hamptons, kicks off at 6 p.m. and wraps up at 10:30 p.m., giving you the chance to soak up golden hour and sunset from across the water, hence the "Sundowner" name, and Mosea has partnered up with some local brands to sweeten the deal.

On top of the aforementioned affordable drinks available at the venue, you'll also be able to score sips from Coldstream and Casa Del Rey, on top of wellness shots from Dose Juice to, ideally, soften the morning-after blow.

There'll also be four DJs spinning from start to finish, live caricature artists, brand activations and giveaways, and on-site photographers capturing it all.

Tickets to the party are on sale now through GuestList, starting at $25.50.
