A short-lived era of sloppy sandwiches in Toronto has come to an unfortunate end, as Slammie Sammies has been forced to vacate its first brick-and-mortar location, which only recently opened.
Founders Pedro Dos Santos and Marilyn Simms shared the distressing news on Instagram, writing, "Today, our business partner, who owns Grand Car Wash, has locked us out of our restaurant behind our back."
The heartbreaking statement went on to suggest a new owner may soon take over the sandwich shop's concept and asked the community for help navigating the situation.
Later, a post in a neighbourhood Facebook group goes on to give more context to the closure.
"VERY SAD NEWS. Pedro and Marilyn, and their wonderful Slammie Sammies, are gone," reads the post from resident Mara Cole. The duo was served a legal notice from their business partner, who allegedly plans to re-open a shop, using the same Slammie Sammie menu that Toronto has come to love.

Slammie Sammie's journey has been turbulent from the start. The shop first opened its doors in 2024, operating out of Opera Bob's, a local pub that closed shortly after the sandwich shop's debut.
That setback didn't slow Dos Santos and Simms' momentum; the duo made a swift comeback in October 2025, only to meet an unfortunate fate less than six months after opening their first standalone location.
blogTO reached out to both Slammie Sammies and Cole, but neither party was available for comment at the time of publication.
Slammie Sammies was located at 828 Eastern Ave.
