Ontario is about to get slammed with yet another blast of winter weather

Ontario weather will be a bit of a wildcard launching into April, and a late blast of wintery conditions could strike in the coming days, bringing another bout of meteorological whiplash to the region.

Southern Ontario temperatures are set to soar into the high teens on Monday — joined by the risk of severe thunderstorms on Tuesday. But don't get too comfortable with the balmy conditions, as meteorologists predict at least one more gasp of miserable weather before the true spring thaw sets in.

European, American, and Canadian weather models are all in agreement that a winter storm will sweep through Southern Ontario on Thursday and Friday.

A mix of light snow and a band of freezing rain is expected to ice the region over later this week, a lingering winter system after a particularly brutal season of extreme temperatures.

North American weather models call for snow overnight Wednesday in Toronto. Temperatures will hover around the freezing mark on Thursday, with close to 18 mm of precipitation anticipated, making for a potentially cold and slippery day in the city.

Southern Ontario will get a much easier ride into spring than northern regions of the province. Northern Ontario will be hit by a winter system starting early Tuesday, bringing up to 15 cm of snow and ice.

It won't be on par with the chaotic disruption associated with the historic snowstorms that hit the province this winter, but the coming system's arrival on the first week of April will likely elicit groans from a populace which has endured one of the worst winters in recent memory.

Temperatures are expected to launch back into the mid-teens on Friday, with a projected high of 15 C in Toronto.
