After months of complaints about brutally slow travel times, Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow says action is finally underway to speed up the TTC's Line 6 Finch West LRT.
In a Threads post published Monday night, Chow confirmed that enhanced signal priority is now being rolled out along the 10.3-kilometre route, with upgrades being installed at new intersections every day.
Chow's announcement was met with largely positive reactions online, with Toronto residents praising what they described as rare, decisive action on an ongoing transit issue.
The 18-stop Finch West line officially opened on Dec. 7, 2025, but the launch was quickly overshadowed by riders frustrated over slower-than-expected travel times and service delays.
At one point, blogTO even raced Line 6 Finch West on a TTC bus, and the LRT was moving so slowly that there was time to stop and grab a snack along the way.
Just days after the launch, Chow acknowledged the concerns during a press conference at City Hall.
"I'm hearing the feedback," she told reporters. "I rode the train, and I know it can be faster."
According to Chow's Thread statement, improving travel times on the newly-opened Line 5 Eglinton Crosstown LRT is next on the agenda.
