east west shuttle toronto

Toronto just got a new way to travel on the waterfront but is it faster than the TTC?

Toronto has a whole new way of getting around the waterfront thanks to the new water shuttle service launched in June.

The East-West Shuttle pilot project kicked off on June 5 and will run to Sept. 7, connecting the Portland Slip in the west with the new Ookwemin Minising island in the east, stopping at Yonge Street along the way.

It's a scenic way to travel along the city's bustling waterfront, but how does it stack up to just taking the parallel TTC streetcar route along Queen's Quay?

We compared the two modes of waterfront travel with a race between Harbourfront Centre and Billy Bishop Airport to get a sense of whether this scenic route will cost you commuting time.

Not only was the TTC streetcar a great deal faster, but it was also much cheaper, at $3.30 compared to the shuttle's $15+HST.

Clearly, those looking to save money and get to their destination the quickest will want to travel via TTC, but this new water shuttle sure seems a stylish and relaxed alternative to the hustle and bustle of public transit.
