The Eglinton Crosstown LRT project finally debuted as the TTC's Line 5 on Sunday, Feb. 8, ending a 15-year debacle of delays, broken promises, cost overruns, and various other missteps that earned the line a rocky reputation long before the first riders boarded trains this weekend.

Crowds braved harsh weather and lined up overnight to be among the first to ride Line 5 when the first train departed just after 5:30 a.m. on Sunday, and despite some expected opening-day hiccups, the 19-kilometre, 25-stop line earned plenty of buzz on day one.
