Toronto Maple Leafs rookie Gavin McKenna lands major endorsement deal

It turns out Gavin McKenna's rookie contract isn't the only major deal the Toronto Maple Leafs star has signed in recent months.

On Tuesday, adidas Canada announced that it had signed the 18-year-old to a multi-year endorsement deal.

McKenna said in a press release that this partnership was another dream come true.

"It's an honour to join the adidas brand and become a part of this family, alongside some of the best athletes from across the world," he said.

The brand has plans to feature McKenna in several of its upcoming ad campaigns, including its You Got This initiative, a mental health campaign aimed at young athletes.

A spokesperson for the company said a reason the brand wanted McKenna to be a part of the adidas family was because of the positive influence he has on young kids across the country.

On the ice, McKenna has made a decent first impression. He has racked up three goals and five assists in 14 games, and sits tied for fourth among NHL rookies in scoring.

McKenna will join Cole Caufield of the Montreal Canadiens on the adidas Canada NHL roster, and the growing list of big-name Canadian athletes across other sports (i.e., ATP tennis star Félix Auger‑Aliassime, Olympic track and field medallist Marco Arop, and Sarah Nurse of PWHL Vancouver Goldeneyes).
