The FIFA World Cup is coming to Toronto later this year, and ticket prices are skyrocketing.
Anticipation is building for the first-ever World Cup games to be played on Canadian soil. A total of 13 matches will be played in Canada, with seven being hosted in Vancouver and the remaining six in Toronto.
The first of those games will be held at Toronto's BMO Field on June 12, and will feature Team Canada opening up their tournament against one of Italy, Wales, Bosnia and Herzegovina, or Northern Ireland.
That will be the most anticipated game of the tournament for the Canadian squad, and it is shaping up to be one of the most expensive of the entire tournament. As of Sunday afternoon, the cheapest tickets available for Canada's opening match were sitting at a pricey $1,599 CAD on StubHub.
A quick look-through at other high-demand games shows that as the fifth-most expensive group-stage match for fans to attend throughout the entire tournament. The only other matches with a higher price tag are the following:
The high-price of the Mexico vs. South Africa match is attributed to it being the opening game of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Though the price is already sky-high for Canada's opener, there is a chance that it could get even higher depending on who the opponent winds up being. Italy and Wales are big draws, and there is bound to be a lot of demand if either one of them plays Canada in that opening match.
The opponent for that match should be determined no later than March 31.
If that seems a bit too pricey, there are four other group-stage matches set to be hosted in Toronto at cheaper pricepoints, though none will feature Team Canada. The cheapest tickets available on StubHub for those games are as follows:
Canada will play their remaining two World Cup group-stage matches at Vancouver's BC Place on June 18 vs. Qatar and June 24 vs. Switzerland.
