Wife of new Blue Jays player is having reality TV trouble since coming to Toronto

When utility player Josh Smith was traded from the Texas Rangers to the Toronto Blue Jays at the 2026 trade deadline, it was a move his family didn't expect.

Having grown up and played professional baseball in the southern U.S. for pretty much his entire career, picking up and moving to another country was bound to come with growing pains.

Though Smith has embraced the new opportunity during his four weeks in Toronto, hitting five home runs and driving in seven runs across 21 games with his new club — his wife, Claire Couv Smith, on the other hand, is still missing plenty of things about the U.S.

American reality TV just happens to be at the top of the list.

In a video shared to Instagram, Couv Smith said there's one thing she can't get over during her trips to Canada: the fact that we don't have the on-demand U.S. streaming platform Peacock.

Ahead of her trip to Toronto for the Blue Jays' upcoming six-game homestand, Couv Smith said she can't get over the lack of reality TV options in Canada and that she has to remind herself to download all her Peacock shows before leaving Texas.

"One thing I'm making sure to do this time. I'm downloading an absurd amount of my shows," Couv Smith said in a video shared with her 355K Instagram followers.

"The one thing I can't get over with Canada is that you cannot get Peacock there — which is where all the reality TV is."

Couv Smith said she's still looking for tips and tricks to get her favourite U.S. reality shows in Canada.

So, if she's reading this, maybe try getting a VPN, or just step outside your comfort zone and get hooked on Canada Shore or Farming for Love.

Smith has been dialled in at the plate from the moment he put on a Blue Jays uniform.

He had just one home run and eight RBIs from the start of the season until the moment he was dealt (Aug. 3), but has since hit five home runs and recorded seven RBIs in 21 games with Toronto.

Smith has been one of the few bright spots in a Blue Jays lineup struggling to get on base down the stretch.

Heading into the final 15 games of the season, Toronto will continue to need his bat in the lineup, sitting only one game back of the Cleveland Guardians' third and final American League Wild Card spot.

They'll host the Baltimore Orioles and Detroit Tigers as part of a six-game Rogers Centre homestand this weekend and into next week.
