Will Auston Matthews be hearing wedding bells in the near future?
The Toronto Maple Leafs star leads a relatively private life, but there is speculation he might be engaged after a recent outing. Matthews was in New York City this past Friday to take in the US Open with girlfriend Vanessa Piunno, where she was seen wearing what appears to be an engagement ring.
The New York Post shared a video of the couple attending the US Open men's semifinal, where she was spotted sporting the ring.
Neither Matthews nor Piunno have confirmed the engagement.

Piunno is a Toronto-based entrepreneur and a certified medical esthetics educator.
It is not known how long the two have been together. They went public with their relationship back in March, when Piunno shared a photo of her holding onto Matthews' arm during his Olympic gold medal celebrations in Italy.
There is no word on whether that was the starting point of their relationship. It remains very possible the two had been seeing each other prior to that.

This wouldn't be the first hint that the couple was thinking of tying the knot. Piunno shared an Instagram post earlier this month with a bunch of photos wrapping up her summer. Among the photos was one that featured a selection of different engagement rings.
Perhaps it was a snapshot of her and Matthews shopping for the right ring?

With the engagement not even confirmed, it's impossible that there would be a potential wedding date. If it does wind up being true, it would make sense that the wedding would come next summer, after the upcoming NHL season.
The hope from Leafs fans is that Matthews will have another ring secured before any potential wedding next summer
