It seems Toronto Blue Jays management isn't afraid to make big changes despite a very successful 2025 season.
Sportsnet's Ben Nicholson-Smith is reporting that the Blue Jays' front office is open to moving on from "prominent, well compensated players" in the name of improving the team via trade or free agency, despite the team making it to Game 7 of the World Series.
The first move showing that this team isn't afraid to make changes came late last week, when management made the decision to remove Yariel Rodriguez from the 40-man roster.
While Blue Jays managemenet is looking to re-sign shortstop Bo Bichette, they have reportedly continued to express interest in outfielder Kyle Tucker as well.
If the Blue Jays bring in Tucker, that could mean moving an outfielder on their current roster.
Anthony Santander is a name that instantly comes to mind, though teams aren't exactly lining up to make a trade for him after what was a very disappointing 2025 season.
Trading designated hitter George Springer would seem unlikely after a phenomenal 2025 season, particularly after he stepped up in a big way in the playoffs.
Could that mean that a player like Nathan Lukes heads out the door? After all, he had a phenomenal first full season in the bigs, but may not repeat it given that he's 31 years old. Another option could be Davis Schneider, though his versatility of also being able to play the infield is something the Jays value.
There is still plenty of time remaining in the offseason, meaning that it may be some time before we learn all the answers to these questions. Either way, Blue Jays fans should be prepared for more changes to this roster ahead of the 2026 season.
