Toronto Maple Leafs now have worst playoff odds of all Canadian NHL teams

The Toronto Maple Leafs are in all sorts of trouble ahead of the holiday season.

It's been a nightmare year for the Leafs so far, sitting at the bottom of the Atlantic Division, second-last in the Eastern Conference, and six points out of a playoff spot. A 5-3 loss to the lowly Nashville Predators on Saturday night felt like rock bottom for Toronto.

Time is starting to tick down on the season for the Maple Leafs, and their shot at making the playoffs is dwindling with every loss. The team is currently sitting 25th in the league with a mediocre record of 15-14-5.

They may be in one of the most desperate situations in the entire league, as MoneyPuck has placed Toronto's playoff odds at a measly 11.1 per cent.

That is the fourth-lowest odds in the entire league, and the worst among Canadian NHL teams.

Shockingly, despite being ahead of both teams in the standings, both the rebuilding Vancouver Canucks and Calgary Flames are being given better chances to make the playoffs.

The Flames have a 25.4 per cent chance, while the Canucks are slightly below them at 18.1 per cent. A struggling Winnipeg Jets club is ahead of all three at 28 per cent.

It isn't really close when it comes to the remaining three Canadian clubs.

The Ottawa Senators (49.6 per cent), Montreal Canadiens (52.2 per cent), and Edmonton Oilers (75.7 per cent) lead the way in that regard.  The only teams with worse odds than the Leafs right now are the San Jose Sharks (10.4 per cent), Predators (10.3 per cent), and Columbus Blue Jackets (6.2 per cent).

Toronto still has a chance to change the course of the season, but they'll have to do it quickly.
