Toronto Tempo unveil two new mascots and here are their backstories

The Toronto Tempo revealed not one, but two new mascots on Tuesday night. 

With Caitlin Clarke and the Indiana Fever in town, the WNBA's newest franchise took advantage of the extra buzz to introduce the team's first-ever mascots into the fold. The Tempo introduced the mascots at halftime, with a dance number. 

Dot is an arctic hare that hails from the Arctic Circle, while Dex is a snapping turtle from Muskoka.

It seems like the introduction was a smashing success with the Tempo fanbase, as many took to social media to comment on the new mascots. 

"Fast and slow? Tortoise vs the Hare. Fitting for a team named Tempo!!" said one excited fan on social media.

"Loveee ittt," said another Tempo supporter. 

"I. AM. HERE. FOR. THIS. DUO! The levels of clever knows no bounds!" wrote another hyped fan. 

"Absolutely obsessed with the turtle," said one particular Dez fan.

The Tempo did more than just reveal the names and looks of their new mascots. Each one came with a fairly extensive backstory so that fans could really connect with the pair. 

Dot's name was inspired by Toronto's nickname of "T-Dot" and is said to have a secret talent for acrobatics. Her guilty pleasure is Netflix's F1 reality series "Drive To Survive," and the team has revealed that she is a Gemini, giving Dot a birthday between May 21 and June 21. 

Her favourite food is also a bit off the board, as it's listed as being cotton candy.

Dez had their name inspired by the word "Decibels," which is both a nod to the Tempo name as well as her love of music. Interestingly, the team also revealed that Dez goes by She/They pronouns, indicating that the mascot is part of the LGBTQ2S+ community. 

Their secret talent is "snapping," which may not be too much of a surprise as a snapping turtle. She was referred to as a Taurus, giving them a birthday between April 20 and May 20, and her favourite food keeps the turtle theme with soft 'shell' tacos. 

Dez's guilty pleasure is ASMR videos, which a lot of people are likely to relate to.
