World Cup Mexico

Toronto's World Cup Warriors: the Mexican

The Team: Mexico

World Cup History: Mexico's never won the World Cup, but have hosted it twice in 1970 and 1986. Both times they reached the quarter finals, which is the farthest they've ever gone in the tournament. If they win today, they'll equal that feat.

First round games: South Africa 1- Mexico 1 (June 11), Mexico 2 - France 0 (June 17), Uruguay 1 - Mexico 0, (June 22), Mexico vs. Argentina (today 2:30 pm)

The Fan: Carlos Montes

Occupation: Construction

Favourite player: Rafael Marquez

How far do you think your team will go in the tournament?: I think they can go to the finals. I hope they will. This is the best team they've had in a long time.

What's the key to your team's success this year?: I'm so afraid, the next game is versus Argentina. They're amazing, they have magic in their legs. I think Mexico can beat them, but they'll have to defend well.

Where will you be watching their next game?: El Jacal at Bloor at Dufferin.

Any pre-game rituals?: Every game I'm here at El Jacal. We all come here, the fans and their families. I'm Mexican and I'm supporting my country.

Which team is your most hated rival and why?: Argentina. The last World Cup they knocked us out in extra time in the round of 16, it was heartbreaking.
