Dang Smoke BBQ

Dang Smoke BBQ is a new, tasty BBQ spot located in Leslieville.

What started out as a food truck named after its owner, Dang Quach, Dang Smoke BBQ now takes up a storefront on the northwest corner of Queen and Greenwood.

The restaurant itself may be small, but the food is bursting with flavour. Upon entering, you can see the food being cooked and assembled right behind the counter.

After six years of running out of a food truck (that had a smoker installed inside), Dang decided it was time to open up a shop, especially since the truck could only operate seasonally.

dang smoke bbqDang says their brisket is the most popular item on the menu, making up about 60 per cent of their sales, in part because brisket is difficult to do at home because of the size of the meat and the time it takes to cook.

This brisket is uniquely tender since it's smoked in foil to keep the moisture in, rather than the butcher paper typically used.

Not far behind in popularity is the pulled pork rib sandwich that features incredibly tender pork tossed in a tequila lime BBQ sauce for just $14.

dang smoke bbqDang is often experimenting, switching up the toppings he serves on the sandwiches. The day I visited, he included a grilled pineapple ring on the pork which was a perfect compliment to the tangy sauce.

The pork can also be purchased as a rack seasoned with a Memphis rub. A third of a rack is $15 and a full rack is $38.

Vegetarians can also get some of this delicious fare, with a grilled veggie burger using a Beyond Meat patty on the menu for $12, featuring the same toppings as the chicken sandwich.

dang smoke bbqNot to be missed is the creamy mac and cheese, topped with crispy breadcrumbs. The cheese is velvety and leaves you wanting more - it's more than worth the $8 price tag.

dang smoke bbqThe restaurant also offers fries ($4 to add to any item, $5 for a small portion, $7 for a large), kale Caesar salad ($6), and tangy, fresh coleslaw for $2.

dang smoke bbqYou can customize your food with a variety of sauces and condiments that are available on the counter beside the cash.

dang smoke bbqThere is limited seating, with just three spots at a counter by the window, so this spot is ideal for grab-and-go. While they don't do delivery just yet, they will be available through delivery apps soon.
