south simcoe railways fall colours train ride ontario

This scenic railroad in Ontario takes colourful fall excursions into the wilderness

The South Simcoe Railway's Fall Colour Excursions, a fall tradition for many in Ontario, return this month, and the historic railway is set to take passengers aboard scenic fall-colours train rides from Tottenham to Beeton for another season.

Each round trip, from Tottenham to Beeton and back, lasts just under an hour, and along the way, the conductor shares tidbits of Canada's rich railway history.

The fall foliage makes a pretty backdrop for this autumn outing as train riders get to see the changing colours of the leaves throughout the journey aboard a vintage 1920s locomotive.

Passengers will usually board Engine #136 to take the trip from Tottenham to Beeton, winding through the Beeton Valley Creek and immersing in all the fall colours and foliage.

Given how popular this nature tour gets — the leaves' changing colours at the Beeton Valley Creek are at their best during autumn — it's highly recommended that you book your tickets in advance; adult admission is $17.

This fall colours train ride runs from September 27 to October 19, only taking place on the weekends.

There are five departure times daily, with the first one being 10 a.m. and your last chance to get on the train being at 4 p.m.

The South Simcoe Railway is located at 28 Mill Street West, in Tottenham, Ontario.
