AC/DC Toronto show planned for destroyed Rogers Stadium finally cancelled
The AC/DC show planned for Toronto next week has been cancelled following extreme damage to Rogers Stadium during last week's 100-year storm.
The Australian rock band's scheduled performance at Rogers Stadium next Wednesday has been in doubt since the temporary outdoor venue on the former Downsview Airport lands sustained heavy damage during the Sept. 2 extreme weather event that swept through the city.
"We regret to announce that AC/DC's show scheduled for September 16, 2026, at Rogers Stadium in Toronto has been cancelled due to damage the venue sustained following a severe weather event," reads a Wednesday evening statement from Live Nation Canada.
The statement stresses that "Every effort was made to find potential solutions for the show to move forward in Toronto, but unfortunately we were unable to find an alternative venue that could accommodate everyone," adding that "Fans who purchased tickets through Ticketmaster will automatically receive a refund to their original method of payment; no action is required."
Live Nation explains that the cancellation came "Following a thorough assessment of Rogers Stadium after last week's extreme weather event," and that "severe damage to portions of the venue" left them unable to safely proceed with the show.
"Last Wednesday's storm was an exceptionally severe and significant weather event, and in the days since, engineers have conducted a thorough assessment of the venue in coordination with the City of Toronto," stated Live Nation, adding that "sections of the venue impacted by the storm will need to be removed and rebuilt."
According to Kevin Mahoney, DTN Risk Communicator Team Lead and AMS-certified consulting meteorologist, who is Rogers Stadium's on-site meteorologist, "Last week's storm was an extraordinary weather event," with Mahoney chalking the damage up to "A suspected microburst in the area with extreme winds."
"It's clear by the extreme intensity of the storm that this was exceptional for the region, and forensic meteorological analysis is ongoing," said Mahoney.
"Cancelling a concert is never a decision we want to make, and we know how disappointing this will be for all of us who have been looking forward to seeing AC/DC close out our summer season," said Wayne Zronik, President of Business Operations at Live Nation Canada.
"Safety has to come first," said Zronik, continuing, "Our teams have been working closely with the city and our partners to understand the storm damage and what needs to happen next. The right decision is to take the time to remove and rebuild the affected parts of the stadium to ensure it is ready to welcome fans next summer."
"Our focus is on completing this work carefully, safely and responsibly, so Rogers Stadium is ready to welcome fans back with confidence next season. We've had an incredible summer at Rogers Stadium, and while this isn't how we wanted the season to end, safety for fans, artists, and employees will always come before any individual event."
