Rogers Stadium collapses during huge Toronto storm and the damage is massive
A portion of Rogers Stadium collapsed during Wednesday's extreme weather event, the latest setback for the temporary outdoor venue built on the former Downsview Airport runway.
Photos and videos circulating on social media show a significant section of the 50,000-seat venue's grandstand collapsed following the thunderstorm that tore into the city Wednesday evening.
Thousands of seats have been displaced by the storm, though there have been no reports of injuries.
Other areas of the stadium's Downsview site appear to have suffered significant damage during the storm.
The 2025-opened venue was next slated to host rock legends AC/DC on Wednesday, Sept. 16, as part of the band's Power Up Tour
A spokesperson for Live Nation Canada tells blogTO that "As a result of yesterday's extreme weather, Rogers Stadium sustained significant damage. As always, the safety of our employees and on-site contractors is our top priority. Fortunately, no one was injured during the extreme weather event."
"We are currently assessing the extent of the damage and will provide further information as it becomes available."
