South Rakkas Crew with Bonjay at Wrongbar

On Friday May 9th there will be a lot of booty shakin' as Nastymix presents South Rakkas Crew with Bonjay at Wrongbar.

South Rakkas Crew are probably the most innovative Dancehall producers right now. Based in Orlando Florida, they have pushed a new breed of sound into Dancehall - some people are describing it as Electro-Dancehall. Breaking all the rules, chopping up samples in new ways and bringing new influences into the mix, these guys have have made their sound unique and dance floors very happy.

They have also worked with some of the biggest artists like Elephant Man, Mr. Vegas, Sizzla, Lady Saw and many more, all the while releasing their own material.

Now signed with Diplo's Mad Decent Label, their Electro-Dancehall sounds now have the potential to reach an even bigger audience.

And guess what!? The crew grew up in Toronto! I'd say the eclectic flavor in their music is clearly a direct influence of our multicultural city.

Lately I've been diggin' this remix of South Rakkas' track Mad Again by Boy 8-Bit:

Toronto's Bonjay scheduled to open the night at Wrongbar has become one of my favourite local bands, always playing rocking sets and always bringing new sounds to the table. They too have influenced the local dancehall scene with their regular BOOM night at Teranga.

And now for a surprise ticket givaway!

Dj Nasty Nav was kind enough to donate 2 tickets to the first person who answers the following question:

Q: What present-day dancehall star divided his time between Jamaica and Toronto when he was on the come-up?
