drake toronto party

Drake hosting Toronto party and only people named Janice are invited

I was starting to get worried since we've gone almost a month without a Drake stunt. But the Toronto rapper is back, and this one might be his most exclusive yet.

No, really, it's exclusive: Drake is throwing a party in Toronto this Sunday, but only for people named Janice.

So, if that's not your government name, you can forget about getting dolled up for the event.

The party is a tongue-in-cheek apology to everyone named Janice after the release of his hit song "Janice STFU." It quickly became the breakout track from the three albums (ICEMAN, Maid of Honour and Habibti) Drake dropped in May, which topped both the Canadian and U.S. Billboard Hot 100 charts.

The event is set to take over Cactus Club on Adelaide West on Sunday, June 28. Time still unconfirmed, but reports indicate it will take place from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

And Toronto won't be the only city getting the Janice treatment. Drake also teased similar parties in New York, Los Angeles, Miami and Houston in a fleeting Instagram Story posted on Thursday. "Look out for my invitation for Sunday," he wrote.

I'm actually curious about the logistics here and how Drake's team is finding all these local Janices, sending out invitations, and verifying identities. But knowing how chummy he is with Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow, maybe City officials are helping him track them down.

If you've got a friend with that name, you might want to let them know about this party. And if you're a Monica or a Rachel thinking of sneaking in, don't bother. Guests will likely be required to show a valid ID to confirm their name.

Since my parents blessed me with the name Natalia, it looks like I'll be watching from the sidelines. Have fun, Janices!
