New Toronto restaurant sells out of food on opening day
A new Toronto restaurant that held its grand opening this past weekend was met with a very warm welcome from the city.
Though they've already made quite the splash in the GTA, the family behind Markham's viral Banh Mi Nana couldn't possibly have known that Toronto's food lovers would greet them with the same enthusiasm upon opening Nam 6ix, their first venture in Toronto proper.
Still, that's exactly what happened.
Though the restaurant, which specializes in homestyle Vietnamese cuisine, soft opened on July 22, its grand opening celebration on July 24 and the weekend following seems to have been when its newfound fandom really came out of the woodwork.
The restaurant took to Instagram to share videos of a lengthy lineup outside the Scarborough restaurant on opening day, announcing that they completely sold out of a lot of their food on the first official day in business.
"Thank you to everyone for coming out on our opening day and celebrating with us," the Instagram post reads.
It then goes on to announce that customers had completely sold Nam 6ix out of coffee, peach tea, wings, 200 pounds of fish and 1oo crabs, all within the restaurant's first hours in business. Not too shabby for the new kid on the block.
There's more excitement — and opportunity for long lineups and major buzz — to come for the family behind the restaurant, too, as they've also got a Toronto location of their banh mi concept, Banh Mi Nana, in the works at Yonge and Finch.
