banh mi nana toronto

Team behind viral Ontario Vietnamese restaurant opening first Toronto location

The team behind a swath of popular Ontario Vietnamese restaurants, including one particularly viral banh mi shop, is finally expanding into Toronto.

In the summer of 2025, Thornhill's seasoned banh mi lovers and the newly initiated alike only had one name on their lips: Banh Mi Nana.

Created by the family team behind other Thornhill and Markham Vietnamese staples Electric Piggy and Nam 2, the banh mi shop was an immediate smash hit, selling through 2000 sandwiches in its first day and regularly selling out before closing time in the days that followed.

The key? According to Michelle, one of the restaurant's owners, it all comes down to attention to detail. At Banh Mi Nana, every loaf of bread, each deli meat, the pork floss and even the butter is made by hand. Evidently, it's an approach that works.

After the smashing success of Banh Mi Nana, the Nam family is now gearing up to expand into Toronto city limits, opening a new restaurant called, fittingly, Nam 6ix, in Scarborough.

Michelle tells blogTO that, not only will the new restaurant be the Nam family's first in Toronto, but it'll also be the largest of the fleet, "so we are very excited for it."

In addition to the Banh Mi Nana bread that made such a splash in Markham, Nam 6ix's main claim to fame will be a menu of Vietnamese dishes less commonly found in the GTA, like sticky rice dumplings called banh it ram, savoury shrimp-filled pancakes called banh khot and banh beo, steamed rice cakes.

The restaurant will also focus on homestyle Vietnamese cooking, like canh chua, a sour soup, and ca kho, clay-pot-braised fish, alongside a selection of seafood like stir-fried snails, grilled oysters and crab.

Nam 6ix is set to soft-open on July 22, with a grand opening slated for July 24 and, who knows? If all goes well, maybe Toronto's very own Banh Mi Nana location won't be far behind.

Nam 6ix will be located at 2111 Sheppard Ave. E.
