Popular Toronto Greek restaurant opening second location after 45 years
A Toronto Greek restaurant that's been a local staple for 45 years is finally expanding its footprint in the city.
While many of Toronto's household-name Greek restaurants are concentrated around Danforth Avenue, Scarborough's Esquire Restaurant has made a name for itself all the same, albeit from Victoria Park Avenue.
Specializing in staple Greek street foods as well as a handful of American-style fast foods, Esquire has been the place to go for locals who can't settle the debate between chicken souvlaki and cheeseburgers since 1981.
They say you can't teach an old dog new tricks, and that may be true, but nowadays Esquire is proving that you can teach an old restaurant new neighbourhoods, as the team gears up to open a second location in a whole new area.
Setting its sights westward, Esquire is now setting up shop at the corner of Queen West and Bathurst, a far cry from its long-time Scarborough haunt.
Wisely situated next to Future Nightclub and just a stone's throw from other nightlife spots like Baby's Cabaret and Bovine Sex Club, it's well-positioned to catch scores of late-night revellers eager to eat themselves into a gyro-induced coma.
But if there's anything that Esquire's lengthy tenure in the city has proven, though, it's that it doesn't need to rely on the drunk-and-hungry to survive. It's got what it takes all on its own.
