Toronto ice cream shop is closing down after less than a year

A Toronto ice cream shop that took over for one of the city's best is closing permanently after less than a year in business.

It was a loss for the ages, back in late October of 2024, when Moss Park's Creamery X announced it would be closing down for good.

The ice cream shop, located at the, shall we say, colourful intersection of Queen and Jarvis, gained a major reputation during its short-and-sweet four-year run thanks to its next-level flavours, which included a selection of vegan and gluten-free ice creams.

The shop officially closed at the end of October last year and was instantaneously replaced by a new, but deeply similar venture, Pink Elephant Creamery. There's good reason for why, exactly, the two ice cream shops were so similar.

Upon the transfer of ownership from Creamery X to Pink Elephant, all of Creamery X's award-winning recipes were transferred to Urvin. It was a great deal for Creamery X's enthusiastic local fanbase, who would still be able to get their fix, just under a new name.

Unfortunately, as we enter October of 2025, less than a year after Pink Elephant first began scooping, the two shops are proving similar in one more, less exciting way.

Pink Elephant recently took to its Instagram account to announce that, in less than two weeks, the ice cream shop will be gone for good.

"After a memorable few months scooping and serving you at Pink Elephant Creamery, we have made the difficult decision to close our doors," an Instagram post shared on Friday, Oct. 3, reads.

"While we are sad to say goodbye, we are immensely grateful for the incredible support and warm welcome you've given us."

In a statement to blogTO, Pink Elephant Creamery owner Urvin explains that a "decline in sales" is to blame for the closure.

Despite the extended summer weather we've been treated to so far this autumn, it seems as though not even a late-season heat wave could drive enough foot traffic at the intersection of Jarvis and Queen to keep Pink Elephant alive.

Urvin tells blogTO that he hopes to reopen Pink Elephant elsewhere in the future, but fans will likely have to wait until next summer to see that happen.

On a lighter note, fans of the ice cream shop still have until Oct. 19 to swing by for one last scoop, so whether you're a seasoned regular or an intrigued visitor, now is your chance to pile that cone high.

Pink Elephant Creamery is located at 114 Queen St. E.
