The businesses of Toronto's Baldwin Village are teaming up this weekend to throw a "surprise" street festival full of some of the city's buzziest eats.
Well, the cat's out of the bag now, and you're welcome in advance.
Taking over Baldwin Street between McCaul and Beverly for the second year, the Baldwin Village Block Party is making its boisterous return this Sunday, welcoming folks from across the city to see what the funky neighbourhood is cooking up.
Home to an impressively saturated selection of popular local restaurants, Baldwin Village is the perfect neighbourhood to host such an event. Though it's smaller in scale than a Taste of Little Italy or Danforth, it packs a punch: the short, tree-lined street is home to no small number of restaurants and cafes wont to appear frequently on social feeds.
Repeat participants at this year's festival include Butter & Blue, Carbonic Coffee, Koh Lipe, Rooms Coffee and Yunnan Noodle Shack, to name only a few, and they're joined by an impressive class of first-timers, including Alfie's, Omai Rice Bar, Petite Lune, J&G Chicken and Pepper Meets Pepper.
Businesses that don't deal in the edible industry, WNDRLND, which sells a curated collection of apparel, art and accessories, and Lychuu Lychuu, an arts and cultural space, will also be involved.
And because it's not possible — as much as I wish it was — to grab a bite at each and every participating restaurant all day without taking a break in between for digestion, there's plenty of entertainment lined up to keep the vibes high while you work up an appetite.
Expect live painting, music, and local artisan vendors peppered in among the other Baldwin Village businesses.
There's a lot — a lot — going on in Toronto this weekend, from the final weekend of the FIFA World Cup's residency here to the grand culmination of Pride Month, but the Baldwin Village Block Party poses a more peaceful kind of party than the rest, and one that you're sure to walk away from feeling well-fed.
The Baldwin Village Block Party runs from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. this Sunday, June 28.
