Toronto pizza chef ranked one of the world's best

A Toronto pizza chef was just named one of the best in the entire world — and it'll come as little surprise to those well acquainted with the city's slice scene.

At a ceremony in Milan, Italy, on Wednesday, June 24, the results of the 2026 Best Pizza awards were unveiled, and one Toronto pizzaiolo has a big victory to write home about, ranking among the 100 best pizza chefs worldwide.

It's not news that Toronto turns out some seriously impressive pizza, with local pizzerias earning top marks at competitions and award ceremonies big and small, but one spot always seems to get a bigger slice of the proverbial pie than others.

You guessed it, I'm talking about Pizzeria Badiali.

Head Chef and co-owner Ryan Baddeley is already a household name around the city, and his reputation appears to have officially crossed over the pond, with Baddeley ranking 59th on the 2026 list.

The distinction is old hat for Baddeley, though. He also scored spots on the list in 2024 and 2025, the only Toronto pizzaiolo to secure a spot in all three years.

He's not the only Canadian chef to get recognized in 2026, though. Chef Cedric Toullec of Halifax's Lou Pecou Artisanal Pizzeria also managed to earn top marks, sliding in for a 92nd-place finish.

If you haven't had the chance to try Badiali's pizza for yourself — not an uncommon experience, given the lengthy lines eternally surrounding it — there's never been a better time to. Badiali recently opened a second, decidedly larger, location at Mirvish Village, spreading the love to even more adoring fans.

Pizzeria Badiali is located at 181 Dovercourt Rd. and 581 Markham St.
