Toronto's trendiest matcha cafe opens a new location this week

One of the most popular matcha cafes in Toronto is expanding with a brand-new location, and it's coming sooner than you might think.

Matcha cafes are rapidly reaching Italian sandwich shop levels of popularity in Toronto these days, in that a new one seems to pop up in the city every week, and, no matter how many exist, people still can't seem to get enough.

Just last week, we got the news that Bathurst's Matcha Haus is soon expanding to Leslieville (in conjunction with Bar Bokeh, a new speakeasy), and now there's even more good news for Toronto's multiplying community of matcha-heads.

As of this Friday, Church Wellesley staple, Matcha Matcha, is also expanding, opening a brand-new location in the heart of Baldwin Village.

The original cafe was something of a pioneer in its field back when it first opened in early 2024, making its name for serving all matcha everything: served straight up, as a latte, baked into mille crêpes and swirled into soft-serve.

As matcha-madness has only tightened its vice on the city, it's become more feasible to imagine a cafe devoted exclusively to matcha, but at the time, it was an ambitious endeavour, indeed, but one that paid off nonetheless.

No further proof is required beyond the news that, this week, the cafe is opening its second location, dubbed the Matcha Matcha Club.

Matcha Matcha describes the Club as a "new chapter" for the cafe; a place "where matcha, creativity, and community meet." Whatever that means. All I know is, if there's matcha involved, I'm sold.

According to Matcha Matcha, the new cafe will feature the cafe's signature menu, "a dedicated matcha corner for quiet moments, and a cozy interior designed for you to sip, stay, and slow down," a decidedly more intimate-sounding space than the expansive Church-Wellesley flagship.

Matcha Matcha's new location opens at 294 Dundas St. W. on Friday, Oct. 17.
