One of Toronto's best donut shops permanently closes major location

One of Toronto's top donut shops has permanently shut down a major location in Toronto, but it's not all bad news.

Recent months have been tough for donut lovers in Toronto. This summer, we saw the loss of Glory Hole Doughnuts after 14 years. Though its usurper looks promising, the loss stings nonetheless.

Now, another blow: Dipped Donuts, widely regarded as one of the city's best donut shops, has permanently shut down its Parkdale location at 1374 Queen St. W., as of Tuesday, Oct. 7.

The beloved local donut business was founded in 2018 when owner Jiten moved to Toronto from the U.K., spent years perfecting his donut recipe, and eventually opened his cheerful shop in the heart of Kensington Market.

The concept proved such a success that, come 2024, Jiten expanded to a second stylish location in the heart of Parkdale.

The expansion would ultimately prove to be short-lived, however, as Jiten took to Dipped's Instagram account on Tuesday, Oct. 7, to share a video announcing that the Parkdale location was shutting down for good, effective immediately.

"So, as you can tell, we haven't been that active on social media recently, and the reason being is because we have two announcements for you guys," Jiten starts off in the video.

One announcement, it goes without saying, was the news of the Parkdale location's closure, while the second took on a decidedly more hopeful note.

As the old saying goes, when one door closes, another one opens, and that's precisely the case at Dipped: with the closure of the Parkdale location comes the opening of a brand-new location elsewhere.

"We are opening up a second location," Jiten announces. Initially, he explains, he had planned to reveal the address of the new location in that very video, but construction issues have delayed its opening, meaning that, for the time being, the location of Dipped's newest shop remains a mystery.

There's something so sweet about the anticipation, though, isn't there?

Not only that, but Jiten clarifies in the video that, while the storefront of the Parkdale location has closed, the space itself will still be used for donut production and to host classes in the near future, so, while you may not be able to pick up a fresh dozen, you can still get your Dipped fix as needed.

We'll have to wait patiently to learn where Dipped Donuts will be popping up next, but in the meantime, you can visit their original Kensington Market location at 161 Baldwin St. when duty (the daily need for a sweet treat) calls.
